Much Ado about Nothing Movie Review

branagh kenneth thompson leonard

Kenneth Branagh wanted to breathe life into the works of William Shakespeare, and that he definitely has. This rambunctious romantic comedy is filled with fun and high spirits, not to mention four glittering American stars. Well, if Branagh had filled EVERY role with moonlighting actors from Masterpiece Theatre, you'd be looking at a movie that was at Cannes on April 15th and on PBS by April 22nd! Branagh and Emma Thompson are the battling Benedick and Beatrice and Robert Sean Leonard and Kate Beckinsale are the young lovers Claudio and Hero. Add Michael Keaton as Dogberry, Keanu Reeves as Don John, Denzel Washington as Don Pedro and then we can play! All this and the sunny scenery of Tuscany, too!

1993 (PG-13) 110m/C GB Kenneth Branagh, Emma Thompson, Robert Sean Leonard, Kate Beckinsale, Denzel Washington, Keanu Reeves, Michael Keaton, Brian Blessed, Phyllida Law, Imelda Staunton, Gerard Horan, Jimmy Yuill, Richard Clifford, Ben Elton, Richard Briers; D: Kenneth Branagh; W: Kenneth Branagh; C: Roger Lanser; M: Patrick Doyle. Nominations: Golden Globe Awards ‘94: Best Film—Musical/Comedy; Independent Spirit Awards ‘94: Best Actress (Thompson), Best Film. VHS, LV, Closed Caption, DVD
