Lancelot of the Lake Movie Review

grail robert bresson holy

Lancelot of the Lake was a smash hit at the Cannes Film Festival; I wonder why. It's such a bloody, boring picture with little to recommend it besides Pasqualino De Santis’ immaculate cinematography (unless you get some sort of a kick out of frozen acting styles and blood flowing out of helmets at a rapid clip). Robert Bresson's re-working of the Camelot mythology includes the search for the Holy Grail (hmmm…was 1975's funnier but equally bloody Monty Python and the Holy Grail a SATIRE of this movie?), Lancelot's romance with Guinivere, and the ill-fated joust that brought an end to the legendary Round Table. AKA: Lancelot du Lac; The Grail; Le Graal.
