The Hidden Room Movie Review

lovely clive wayne bill

Naunton Wayne turns detective in this war of nerves between Dr. Clive Riordan (Robert Newton) and his lovely wife's American lover, Bill Kronin (Phil Brown). Clive wants to dissolve Bill in an acid bath, but he wants to choose just the right moment when he's under the least suspicion. Meanwhile, Clive's lovely wife Storm (lovely Sally Gray) wants to know what the heck is going on, although she never considers the acid bath. The only ones who keep their cool here are Wayne as kindly Supt. Finsbury and (though it ain't easy) Bill, who has A Plan. Everyone's good in what feels like a Victorian melodrama updated to post-war London. Wonder if Levinson and Link watched this Brit noir while germinating Lt. Columbo? AKA: Obsession.
