Rock n roll was the new music of the 1950's and one rising star named Ritchie Valens (Lou Diamond Phillips) was one lucky teenager who was discovered and on his way to stardom. This true story shows the life of Ritchie and how he and his family went from rags to riches as he began making more money from his singing career. Ritchie was afraid to fly so to all his concerts and appearances he insisted on driving or taking a bus. He even had several dreams that he was in a plane that crashed. One cold, snowy day on February 3, 1959 Ritchie was asked to go on American Bandstand. Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper, two famous music groups, had a private plane that was taking them to American Bandstand as well. Ritchie had a really bad cold and they all convinced him to go with them so he agreed. Right before he got on the plane, he called his half brother Bob and asked him to meet him in Chicago to go on tour with him and to let him know he was flying there. And then poor Ritchie's nightmare came true. His plane crashed and every passenger died. This awesome movie had good music, great actors and showed how hard a young teenager worked to make his dream come true.
