A lavish British-made spectacle about the conflict between Oliver Cromwell and Charles I, and the British Civil War. History is twisted as Cromwell becomes the liberator of the oppressed. Harris gives a commanding performance and the battle scenes are stunners.

To whoever is interested. I happened to see the 1970 film Cromwell on TV a few day's ago, staring Richard Harris.I was impressed anyway and I thought it was excellent, especially as in the 1970's they did'nt have the help of CGI and had to build sets and scenary etc. As I am writing this in England I feel that we could do with another Oliver Cromwell or two to try and straighten out this country and give it some direction.42 years after the film Cromwell was made the present government is wrestling with a far more important problem that being the "same sex marriage bill". As if. Oliver, where are you now? "England our England we need you". gfoxwell@hotmail.co.uk Posted 20/3/2012.
