Unlikely but winning comedy of Ralphie's (Billingsley) single-minded obsession to acquire a Red Ryder BB-gun for Christmas, and the obstacles that everyday life in 1940s Indiana can throw his way. Particularly great sequence involving an impatient department-store Santa. Fun for everyone. Based on "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash," an autobiographical story by Shepherd. Followed by "My Summer Story" in 1994, also from Shepherd's book.

Everyone I know loves this movie! So many people have a tradition of watching it around Christmas time. When Ralphie asks his mother for a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas, she says, "No, you'll shoot your eye out!" His teacher said the same thing about a paper he wrote about the BB gun and he got a C+ for doing so. Ralphie and his friends get into some trouble but it is all hilarous! He has to deal with his brother and some bullies and doesn't know how he will make it through.
