A psychiatric hypnotist helps a girl stop smoking and finds that in trances she remembers previous incarnations. He falls in love with one of the women she used to be. Alan Jay Lerner of "My Fair Lady" and "Camelot" wrote the lyrics and the book. Based on a musical by Lerner and Burton Lane.

Barbra Streisand (as Daisy Gamble), Yves Montand (as Dr. Marc Chabot), Bob Newhart (as Dr. Mason Hume), Larry Blyden (as Warren Pratt) and Jack Nicholson (as Tad Pringle) star in this romantic comedy. Daisy Gamble wants to make her fiancé happy, so she decides to go see a hypnosis to help her quit smoking. Once under the trance, the doctor finds out that she can remember previous reincarnations. Soon, the doctor starts to fall in love with one of her personalities.
