Touching, hilarious, dramatic, and completely effective adaptation of Ken Kesey's novel. Nicholson is two-bit crook Randle Patrick McMurphy, who, facing a jail sentence, feigns insanity to be sentenced to a cushy mental hospital. The hospital is anything but cushy, with tyrannical head nurse Ratched (Fletcher) out to squash any vestige of the patients' independence. Nicholson proves to be a crazed messiah and catalyst for these mentally troubled patients and a worthy adversary for the head nurse. Classic performs superbly on numerous levels.

This hilarious 1075 movie stars Jack Nicholson as Randle McMurphy who has committed several crimes in the past, but this time is being sent to prison for statutory rape as his girlfriend said she was 18 when she was really only 15. Randle gets the idea that if he pretends he is crazy then instead of going to prison, he will get to serve his time in a nice, cushy mental institution. Well, Randle gets his wish, however, it's not as cushy as he thought. When he arrives at the institution, he meets Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher) who is more like a drill-sargent to the patients and is in for a surprise. She is mean to the patients, likes complete control and embarrasses them all. Randle decides to get things changed around the place and teaches the patients how to play cards, gets all the patients to escape for a deep sea diving mission, and calls his girlfriend to bring booze over one night when nurse Ratched is asleep. Randle forms many friendships with the patients and actually helps many of them overcome their problems. This great show has a lot of good acting and if you want a few laughs I really recommend it!
