In this James Bond adventure, 007 must keep the Soviets from getting hold of a valuable instrument aboard a sunken British spy ship. Sheds the gadgetry of its more recent predecessors in the series in favor of some spectacular stunt work and the usual beautiful girl and exotic locale. Glen's first outing as director, though he handled second units on previous Bond films. Sheena Easton sang the hit title tune.

WARNING: REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS – WE RECOMMEND TO WATCH MOVIE FIRST! VERDICT: FYEO is in my personal "7 Best Bond Movies". It has the right balance: a welcome return to the entertaining but more believable stories and fun to watch, though more gadgets wouldn’t hurt it. A couple of small drawbacks: the pre-title sequence about Blofeld does not really belong there; the supporting cast is questionable (with the exception of Topol); and there is obvious recycling of some old ideas. COLL STUFF: - Chase with bobsled-ski–motorcycle: breathtaking (1 stuntman really died) - Underwater scenes always fun: submarines, divers, sharks, etc. - All girls are hot - The villain is not exposed from the beginning: good for a story - Great supporting actor/character: Topol as “Columbo” - All scenes with a mountain monastery: spectacular and real - 1st time in a series: Bond is a mountain-climber - New killing trick: dragging through corals as bait for sharks - Funny end: Margaret Thatcher on the phone with a parrot thinking it is Bond - Exotic locations: Spain, Greece, islands, Cortina resort, ancient places NOT COOL: - Pre-title revenge on Blofeld is way too late: by the 80’s everyone forgot about him! - There are no gadgets: a watch with SMS does not count - No more “M” (actor died): feels odd - There is a car chase in the crappy old Citroen, but none in two mega-hp Lotuses! - Bond-Moore is really getting old: he doesn’t want to go to bed with Bibi! - The villain is not really evil: more like a businessman (as in “Moonraker”) - Henchman Locque is intimidating on paper, but doing nothing in the movie - Melina is beautiful, but could be more emotional for a southern woman obsessed with revenge - “The guy with a bottle”: nice funny tradition (SWLM, Moonraker), but not used well here
