Award-winning story set in depression-era Kansas with Ryan O'Neal as a Bible-wielding con who meets up with a nine-year-old orphan. During their travels together, he discovers that the orphan (his daughter, Tatum) is better at "his" game than he is. Irresistible chemistry between the O'Neals, leading to Tatum's Oscar win (she is the youngest actor ever to take home a statue). Cinematically picturesque and cynical enough to keep overt sentimentalism at bay. Based on Joe David Brown's novel, "Addie Pray." The director's version contains a prologue by director Bogdanovich.

This good movie about con artists was made in 1973 and is about a man named Moses Pray (played by Ryan O'Neil) and Addie Loggins (played by his daughter Tatum) who aren't sure if they are related or not but join forces when Moses shows up at the cemetery for Addie's moms funeral. Moses claims he is just out spreading the good word. Addie soon realizes that Moses is a fake and searches through obituary's looking for recently widowed women and selling bibles. Addie becomes even better at the con game than Moses who doesn't really want Addie around but she helps make his cons more believable. Moses then decides he is going to take Addie to live with her Aunt and Addie says she'll be fine with them. Then as he is driving down the road away from the Aunt's house Addie runs after his truck, he stops to talk to her, the truck starts driving away on it's own, they both run after the truck and they join forces again. The acting is really great in this movie and the bond between the two shows in their acting.
