Faithful yet passionate TV adaptation of Hawthorne's classic novel of 17th-century New England. Hester Prynne (Foster) is condemned by her Puritan fellows for having a child out of wedlock and is forced to wear a scarlet letter A for adultery. Secretly sharing Hester's torment is the Rev. Arthur Dimmesdale (Heard), the baby's father, and Hester's vengeful back-from-the-dead husband, Roger Chillingsworth (Conway).

The Scarlet Letter was a TV mini-series that came out in 1979 and has a total running time of 240 minutes. Meg Foster, Elisa Erali, John Heard, Carolina Kava and Kevin Conway star in this drama. The Scarlet Letter won a Primetime Emmy. Hester Prynne is being punished for committing adultery and now has to wear a scarlet letter as punishment.
