Jim Blandings (Grant), wife Muriel (Loy), and their two daughters must give up their Manhattan apartment for new digs. City boy Jim wants to become a suburbanite and the Blandings decide to build their dream house--with many complications. Timely at its release because of the post-WWII housing shortage and building boom, this classic comedy is still a humorous treat with Grant at his funniest. Loy and Douglas provide strong backup. A must for all homeowners. Based on the novel by Eric Hodgins.

Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House came out in 1948 and has a total running time of 93 minutes. Cary Grant, Myrna Loy, Melvyn Douglas, and Lex Barker star in this family comedy. Jim Blandings, his wife, Muriel, and their two teenage daughter live in an apartment in Manhattan. Jim feels that it’s time they upsize to something bigger, so he and his wife start house searching. They find a big house in the country of Connecticut for a great price but many inspectors tell him he shouldn’t buy the house due to all the problems the house has. Well, he buys the house anyways and finds that this “dream house” is costing a lot of money due than he expected.
