Daredevil made his appearance in Marvel Comics in 1964. Having lost his sight in an industrial accident when he was a kid, his remaining senses are enhanced but he's basically still human. Too bad the movie isn't. It's flashy and loud but uninvolving. Lawyer Matt Murdock (Affleck) turns vigilante and dons red leather and a goofy mask when one too many criminals goes free. The big (literally) bad guy is Kingpin (an avuncular Duncan) who keeps flashy assassin Bullseye (Farrell) on the payroll. Meanwhile, Matt is trying to make time with heiress Electra (Garner) who thinks Daredevil killed her father--putting a crimp in the potential romance. Garner looks great in leather and refines the butt-kicking skills she uses in her TV series "Alias" to good effect. Affleck's sorta lightweight since Daredevil has lots of issues; he's better at sarcasm than angst.

Matt Murdock is an orphan and he is doused with hazardous waste. The accident leaves Matt blind but also gives him a heightened "radar sense" that allows him to "see" far better. Years later he has grown into a man and becomes a respected criminal attorney. After he's done his "day job," Matt takes on a secret identity as "The Man Without Fear," Daredevil, the masked avenger that patrols the neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen and NYC to fight off the bad guys.
