Rich hot city guy or hot poor country guy? That's the choice NYC fashion designer Melanie (Witherspoon) has to make in this amiable romantic comedy. The dueling beaus are Andrew (Dempsey), son of NYC mayor Bergen, and Jake (Lucas), Melanie's high school sweetheart (and current husband) back home in Alabama who still has the hots for her. When Andrew pops the question in high style, Melanie accepts and then races off to Alabama to finish matters with Jake, who hasn't given her a divorce. Complications abound when sparks fly with Jake and Mel's snooty city friends discover her well-hidden, trailer-trash upbringing. Witherspoon plays her trademark plucky act well, elevating a so-so vehicle.

I really like this movie, but it is more of a chick flick so I don't think many guys will like this movie. Melanie Carmichael is a fashion designer in New York. She suddenly finds herself engaged to the city's most eligible bachelor, Andrew Hennings. She is originally from Alabama and doesn't like many people to know anything about her home town. Melanie's past holds many secrets, including Jake, the redneck husband she married in high school, who refuses to divorce her. Bound and determined to end their relationship once and for all, Melanie takes a trip back home to Alabama to confront her past. She starts to feel lke she is where she belongs. She calls off the wedding in the aisle and discovers that you can take the girl out of the South, but you can never take the South out of the girl. This love story is really cute!
