Single father Penn has the mental capacity of a seven-year-old which makes authorities question his ability to raise young daughter Fanning. Pfeifer's the hard-edged lawyer who comes to his aid and becomes a better person for it. Overly sentimental and sweet, with not much new to offer except the obvious talent of Fanning.

I had to watch this movie in school a number of years ago. I had never heard of it before then. It is an alright movie but it is kind of sad. Sam is mentally handicapped and he has a little girl that he gets to see every so often. He really wants to have her everyday to live with him, but no one thinks that he is capable of doing so. Throughout this movie, he fights to gain custody of his little girl. You might end up crying at some point in this movie so be prepared with some tissues.
