Freddie Prinze, Jr. is really gonna have to learn to shake off some of the signs his agent is giving him. In this rip-off of every baseball movie of the last decade, Prinze plays underdog pitcher Ryan, on his last chance in his hometown Cape Cod league. Complicating matters are his flamboyant rival Eric (Pearson) and upperclass babe Tenley (Biel), who he falls for while cutting lawns for his irascible father (Ward). Can Ryan make it to the big leagues with help from grizzled manager Schiffner (Dennehy)? Will he win the bodacious babe despite protests from her blueblood father (Davison)? Will Lillard make another appearance in a Freddie Prinze, Jr. movie? If you don't know the answers to those questions, you deserve to watch this bush-league flick.

This movie is pretty good. Ryan Dunne is a blue-collar kid with aspirations to play in the MLB. Every summer, the hottest college ball players descend upon Cape Cod to pursue their baseball dreams during the day and blow off steam in town at night. Ryan is the first local boy in years to earn a slot for the team, Ryan finally got his shot. The temptations off the field are getting in the way of his commitment to the game. A beautiful young woman who stay her summers in the town with her family distracts Ryan. As the friction builds between his loyal friends and his cocky teammates, Ryan's rivalry with hot-shot teammate Eric comes to a head. When a major league scout comes along, he tries to push the pangs of romance and player rivalry aside, because his sports talent may be his only ticket out of the small, industrial town.
