A wild, wild waste of time, money, and star power that saw director Sonnenfeld and star Smith re-team (after "Men In Black") for this western spy spoof based on the 60s TV series. Government agents James T. West (Smith) and master-of-disguise Artemus Gordon (Kline) are sent to stop diabolical wheelchair-bound scientist, Dr. Arliss Loveless (Branagh), from assassinating President Ulysses S. Grant in 1867. The budget was $100 million but the elaborate sets and effects are more hokey than cool and some money should have been spent on the script. And a black James West just doesn't work, no matter Smith's charm.

A famous scientist is found dead by a devilish device. Special Agent Artemus Gordon finds out about the man's last sight and is forced to team up with James West. They first suspect General "Bloodbath" McGrath to be responsible for the killing, but as he's not bright enough to invent a machine like that himself, a more evil mastermind is soon proven to exist. Dr. Arliss Loveless, who has kidnapped the nation's best scientists, plans on taking a major part of the country as his own property. Dr. Loveless gets a little distracted by Rita Escobar, daughter to one of the abducted scientists.
