Average small town schmoe George Malley (Travolta) is turned into a genius when he's struck by a bright light on his 37th birthday. This development brings him to the attention of the scientific community and, of course, the military. The locals scorn him, thus fulfilling the Hollywood stereotype of rural folks fearing anything they don't understand. Good-natured weeper plays the Gump card (but turns too paranoid) and wins as Travolta gets to be the nice guy, while attractive Sedgwick is fine as romantic interest Lace.

The movie Phenomenon is a good movie. Theres a great cast. John Travolta, Forest Whitaker, Robert Duvall, and Kyra Sedgwick are just to a name a few. This movies is about a guy who gets struck by a weird bright light of some sort. He then becomes really smart. I guess you can say a genius. The movie shows how his life changes and what he goes through now becoming a genius after being hit by a light. The movies made me cry, laugh, and its suspenseful somewhat. It's a good movie.
