Teenager Anna Berter, growing up in turn-of-the-century Iowa, is told by her snobbish mother Etta (Hamel) not to befriend the help, which include the woman who raised Anna alongside her granddaughter Edwina. When Edwina is seduced by a Berter family friend and left pregnant, Etta decides to adopt her baby daughter--whether Edwina wants to let the baby go or not. All this obsessive behavior leads Anna to discover some very unhappy family secrets surrounding her own birth. Made for TV.
