Feverish romantic fantasy has playgirl/nightclub singer Pandora Reynolds (Gardner) living in '30s Spain and being romanced by every man in sight. Naturally, she cares for none of them until she meets enigmatic Dutch captain Hendrick van der Zee (Mason) who is, in fact, the legendary Flying Dutchman--condemned to wander the seas forever unless a woman is willing to give up her life for him. Gardner is, as usual, exotically lovely.

If you haven't seen this movie, I definately suggest you do. Not only is the legend itself of the Flying Dutchman hauntingly beautiful and sad, but they way Ava Garder and James Mason portray the fate destined meeting between the tortured soul of Dutchman, and the only woman who can silence the pain and ease his curse. The cinematograpy of the Spanish seaside is stunning not to mention the dreamy James Mason, and exotic Ava Gardner. There is great sexual tension and these two actors really have great chemistry. This movie inspired me to delve deeper into the history behind the legend itself. My advice get a bottle of wine and sit back and enjoy this fine film.
