Typical teens-in-peril flick finds the high school prom held in a mysterious old castle with ghouls out to get the unfortunate seniors. Visuals are decent but frights are tepid.

For starters, this is way too intelligent a movie to be a 'typical teens-in-peril' flick. The whole mystery is their discovering what 'The Club' (I'm not going to spoil it for you!) is, and how you can never leave when you join it. The guy playing the Devil's Dark Angel is excellent - if the film had had a bigger budget it would have been a perfect Jack Nicholson role. It gives you a whole new slant on how the Devil thinks. And it shows how insidious bad thoughts about others can be, even if they're unfounded. Low-budget, true, but that doesn't matter. You come away from it wondering if you, too, are in The Club! A great, well-written, taut psychological drama.
