Lavish spectacle about a friendship tested by the turbulent times leading up to Civil War. Orry Main (Swayze) is a South Carolina plantation owner while his best friend George Hazard (Read) comes from a Pennsylvania industrial family. Orry is also involved in a doomed romance with the beautiful Madeline (Down), who's forced to marry the odious Justin LaMotte (Carradine). Lots of intrigue and excitement. Based on the novel by John Jakes. Filmed on location in Charleston, South Carolina. Originally broadcast as a six-part TV miniseries. Available on six cassettes.

This movie was excellent. I'm a Patrick Swayze fan and his character Orie Mann was a really good guy. The show starts out when Orie was 18 and went off to West Point. It was there that he met his soon to be best friend George Hazard. Orie was from the South and George was from the North and they didn't agree on slavery so they had many disagreements. Both guys' families become really good friends. This movie really gives good insight into how the united states was so divided back then and all the grief it caused everyone. It gives a good history lesson as well because of the war that started between the North and South.

I really loved the movie. It has some of my favorite actors and actresses in it. It is a long movie. If you like history and war pictures you maybe intrested in seeing this. It is not like any other war picture.
