Surprising boxoffice hit casts Goldberg as a Reno lounge singer, Deloris, who's an inadvertent witness to a mob murder by her boyfriend Vince (Keitel). The cops hide her in a convent--where she's as comfortable in a habit as a fish is out of water. Much to the dismay of the poker-faced Mother Superior (Smith), Deloris takes over the rag-tag choir and molds them into a swinging, religious version of a '60s girls group. Stock characters and situations are deflected by some genuinely funny moments and good performances, especially by Najimy and Makkena. Coached by the very clever Shaiman, Whoopi handles her singing bits with gusto, highlight of which is "My God," sung to the tune of "My Guy."

Deloris (Whoppi Goldberg) is dating a guy named Vince that won't talk about his work with her. She finds out he is married and wants to break up with him and when she goes over to his office to do so, she sees him shoot his limo driver. Vince and his men try to chase her down and she escapes and goes to the police. They put her in a witness protection program as a nun. Her and the Reverend Mother don't get along too well and she gets in trouble when she sneaks out one night to go to a bar and the other sisters follow her. The Reverend Mother wants her to leave but she begs her to let her stay. The Reverend Mother agrees but tells her the only condition is that she has to join their choir. Deloris feels the choir is really boring so she gets them singing really good and they sing songs that they never sang before. Deloris ends up helping the other sisters and becomes friends with them. Then the detective tells Deloris that there is a leak in the police department and trouble starts for Deloris. This 1992 is a really good movie that will make you laugh.
