Everybody's favorite family of ghouls hits the big screen, but something is lost in the translation. An imposter claiming to be long-lost Uncle Fester (Lloyd), who says he was in the Bermuda Triangle for 25 years, shows up at the Addams' home to complete a dastardly deed--raid the family's immense fortune. Although Fester's plan is foiled, a series of plot twists highlight the ghoulish family's eccentricities. Darkly humorous but eventually disappointing: Julia, Huston, and Ricci (as Gomez, Morticia, and Wednesday, respectively) are great in their roles and the sets look good, but the plot is thin. Much closer to the original comic strip by Charles Addams than the popular TV show ever was.

The Addams' are certainly not your typical neighbors. They are rich, eccentric and like to have seances. Gomez and Morticia are the owners and one day Gomez mentions to his lawyer Tully that he hasn't seen his brother Fester in 25 years. So Tully, a loan shark named Abigal and her son Gordon, who looks like Fester, decide to try and pass Gordon off as Fester so they can get to the family vault with all the money. They find out that Fester is in charge of all the family finances and have Gomez, Morticia and their family kicked out of their home. Penniless, they have to move to a motel and Wednesday and Pugsley try to raise money with a lemonade stand, Thing (a hand) gets a job with Federal Express, and Lurch the butler gets a job selling vacuums. This family is trying hard to adapt to such a common life but don't feel like they will ever fit in. Morticia discovers what Tully, Abigail and Gordon are up to and they eventually get their house back and find Fester. When the Addams' move back in they are so excited they feel like life can't get much better. This 1991 remake is a good movie and who says you have to be ordinary to be happy.
