High action story of Chicago firemen has some of the most stupendous incendiary special effects ever filmed. But then there's that plot, B-movie hokum about a mystery arsonist torching strategic parts of the community with the finesse of an expert and a brother-against-brother conflict. Straight-forward performances from most of the cast in spite of the weak storyline. Writer Widen wrote from experience--he used to be a fireman; real-life Chicago firefighters were reportedly very happy with the realistic and intense fire scenes. Forget the plot and just watch the fires. Also available in a letterboxed version.

This movie is so good and portrays the life of a firefighter as a very hard job and they put their lives on the line for us everyday. Kurt Russell does an excellent job in this movie. His wife leaves him because of his job and he really wants to get back with her. His brother becomes a firefighter and Kurt does not want him to. He is always worried that something will happen to him. The fire scenes and special effects seem very real and it's really intense to watch what all the firefighters go through trying to put the fires out and try to save the people. I recommend this to everyone.

I really liked the movie Backdraft. I thought the effects were awesome and the casting was great. Kurt Russell, Robert De Niro, William Baldwin, and Donald Sutherland star in Backdraft. The movie is about Chicago firefighters. The fire scenes are intense and very well done. The movie is supsensful and will keep you entertained all the way through. Backdraft was made in 1991 and is about a little over two hours, although it didn't feel that long of a movie. I was very entertained.
